Jennifer Lopez's film "Bordertown" will open in El Paso Oct. 19.
Those associated with the film are trying to arrange for Lopez to come to El Paso for a screening of the film, but nothing is planned as of yet.
"Bordertown," based on true events, is the story of one woman's passionate struggle for justice in a town gripped by fear. American journalist
Lauren (Jennifer Lopez) arrives in Juárez determined to find out the truth about hundreds of murdered women.
The film, directed by Gregory Nava, also stars Antonio Banderas and Martin Sheen and is expected to be shown in several theaters in El Paso.
Lopez attended a special screening in July of the film in El Paso along with 25 mothers of the murdered victims, said Barbara Jitner-Martinez, one of the
executive producers of the film.
"The release was postponed a bit because Jennifer had another film, 'El Encantante,' and so the movies weren't competing against each other
'Bordertown' was pushed back," she said. "It will open in El Paso and Dallas. El Paso is obviously Ground Zero for this."
The film, to be distributed by ThinkFilm in the U.S., will likely have a staggered release, said Gabriel Reyes, president of Reyes Entertainment which is
doing publicity for the film.
Lopez received the Amnesty International "Artists for Amnesty" award at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year in recognition of her work as
producer and star of "Bordertown."
Jitner-Martinez said "Bordertown" opened in Europe and elsewhere worldwide earlier this year and did well.
"It was top 10 in Spain, Italy and the Philippines," she said.
According to a comprehensive analysis by Amnesty International, approximately 400 young women have been murdered or abducted in the cities of Juárez and
Chihuahua, Mexico since 1993.
Guys this is exciting if she would actually come here. Im from El Paso so this would be cool if the movie actually premiered here and she attended.
Cant wait to hear more news on this.

You mean a big budget movie? Cuz her last three movies were independent movies which weren't meant to be blockbusters to begin with.
I know they aren't meant to make billions......But Jen needs a blockbuster!!!...
I'd rather Jen make more movies like El Cantante, An Unfinished Life, and Bordertown, but unfortunately she will probably go back to making movies
like Enough and Wedding Planner, not that I don't love those movies (I really love all of Jen's movies), but they are a bit corny, I love gritty,
dramatic movies like El Cantante.
yeah... i still haven't seen An Unfinished Life/El Cantante... and i had to download Bordertown to watch it... i hope Jen will have big budget movies
next, cuz i hate the fact that independent movies are limited released, and i can't watch it.
I don't want Jen to get more credibility,or if she's taken seriously as an actress... i just want people to watch, enjoy the movie.
EVERYONE knows Wedding Planner, but almost noone knows El Cantante,Bordertown,An Unfinished Life.. only we,fans, and critics.
