Distribution deals scarse @ Sundance '08 | #323 | ||
|
Related to topic - - In the new issue of "Entertainment Weekly" (Heath Ledger cover), there's a short piece written from the Sundance
Film Festival; it reminded me of Jen's experiences with her two films, "Bordertown" & "El Cantante". Star Vehicles Get Chilly Sundance Reception. talks about changes in the indie film climate, even for film veterans
such as Oscar winner Robert DeNiro. His new satire "What Just Happened?" costars Sean Penn and Bruce Willis, and premiered at Sundance. Though
well received @ the screening, reportedly the film still needs a distributor. The same goes for a Tom Hanks film, and for a movie titled "Sunshine
Cleaning", which was this year's #1 audience favorite at Sundance. Although there's still time to find a distribution deal, these situations are
atypical.

They banned the movie on MEXICO cause on the movie the killer are the bus driver and in the reallity isn't real !!! Also they show a Dangerous, poor, dark,
and ugly MEXICO and isn't true...also the movie "MAN ON FIRE" shows something similar !!!
I thought that was the reason of JEnny cancelled her MEXICO promo for CAUM on april 2007 !!!! she was afraid

J-Lo's Juarez murder film on DVD Tuesday
Times staff report Article Launched: 01/27/2008 07:42:30 AM MST Jennifer Lopez's film "Bordertown" will be released Tuesday on DVD, according to the Web site of the film's U.S. distributor THINKFilm. The film was originally set to debut in El Paso in late October before having a staggered release nationally. The screening in El Paso did not happen and the film was pulled nationwide from the distributor's release schedule. "Bordertown," based on true events, is the story of one woman's passionate struggle for justice in a town gripped by fear. American journalist Lauren (Jennifer Lopez) arrives in Juárez determined to find the truth about hundreds of murdered women. "Bordertown" is Rated R "for violence including a brutal rape, sexuality, nudity and language." The 85-minute film, directed by Gregory Nava, also stars Antonio Banderas and Martin Sheen. Lopez received the Amnesty International "Artists for Amnesty" award at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year in recognition of her work as producer and star of "Bordertown." According to a comprehensive analysis by Amnesty International, about 400 young women have been murdered or abducted in the Mexican cities of Juárez and Chihuahua since 1993. |

"BORDERTOWN" (2008)
In a surprising straight-to-DVD offering, Jennifer Lopez reteams with "Selena" writer-director Gregory Nava as a newspaper reporter investigating the murders of women employed in American-owned factories in Juarez, Mexico. The fact-based film is a noble undertaking, but Lopez plays it far too glam. Antonio Banderas does better as a beleaguered colleague all too familiar with local corruption. Extras: Production featurette; Amnesty International segment aimed at raising awareness of the murders. (THINKFilm, $27.98) |

yeah the mexicans don't like movies like "MAN ON FIRE" or "BABEL" cause they make look "BIGGER" some problems, and they just
show the Ugly little towns of Mexico.

Bordertown
though likely to be panned by critics for they all loathe Lopez, was a sad and
emotionally gripping night at the movies for my girlfriend and I. The investigations of these murders kept me on the edge of my seat yet inevitably by the end
I still felt nothing but heartache.
Bordertown was a sad but important film that needed to be made. Nava did an exceptional job behind the camera after his 10 year hiatus from directing. While Lopez, Sheen, and Banderas each brought out the best in themselves for this first rate crime thriller based on a true story. |
